Nominations for HackSoc Committee 2017-2018

All nominations are self-nominations. Positions will be voted on at the AGM on Wednesday 12th April.

Running for President

Callan Garratley

Q1: What is the Ethical Hacking Society?
A: The Ethical Hacking Society is a group of like-minded, passionate people who educate and promote security and more tech interests to others

Q2: What would you like to see done differently next term?
A: Next term, I'd like to see more sessions displaying the basics of tools that we use commonly and tutoring for younger years, e.g. burpsuite

Q3: What do you want to gain from a committee position?
A: To develop my skills as a leader and team player. I want to be in the team that leads the society and its members to bigger, better things.

Q1: What is the Ethical Hacking Society?
A: The Ethical Hacking Society is a place where students with a common interest in ethical hacking related topics can listen and share their ideas.

Q2: What would you like to see done differently next term?
A: I would like to see greater participation from more students in all years, as well as making Securi-Tay a more recognisable event.

Q3: What do you want to gain from a committee position?
A: I would like to gain the knowledge and experience of running the society and coordinating Securi-Tay and seeing the Society maintaining its success.

Q1: What is the Ethical Hacking Society?
A: HackSoc is a social community of people with a common interest in computing/infosec. It’s a place to learn, meet & have fun.

Q2: What would you like to see done differently next term?
A: Not only talks: a push for the wiki; a mentor programme for new speakers & trips away (Bletchley/go-karting/anything people want).

Q3: What do you want to gain from a committee position?
A: Nothing. Position’s are there to fulfil the wants of society members, not for personal gain. Although a pink Securi-Tay top would be fab.

Euan Miller

Q1: What is the Ethical Hacking Society?
A: The Hacking society is a gathering which allows people interested in security of all years to socialise in a calm and friendly environment. Allowing people to share what they have done or are interested in. Also it allows people to find out what other have done and find other with similar interests.

Q2: What would you like to see done differently next term?
A: To get more first years to come along after the first few weeks and to socialise with the older years more. Also to create other activities

Q3: What do you want to gain from a committee position?
A: Gain skills in leading social activities for such a large group. And to gain respect from the society to further improve relations

Q1: What is the Ethical Hacking Society?
A: TEH Society is a platform in which like-minded individuals can discuss and learn about all areas of ethical hacking and cyber security.

Q2: What would you like to see done differently next term?
A: Increase the number of casual social events to allow members the time and space to mix and grow more acquainted with other members.

Q3: What do you want to gain from a committee position?
A: The chance to help build upon the success of the society as well as gain experience through managing such an established group.

Q1: What is the Ethical Hacking Society?
A: We are a satanic group that meets weekly to curse all who use telnet. We also enjoy short talks on cool topics with further discussion in the pub.

Q2: What would you like to see done differently next term?
A: Expand efforts to encourage first/second years to talk, summary of interesting subject early on. Utilise the wiki more & expand it.

Q1: What is the Ethical Hacking Society?
A: A congregation of likeminded security enthusiasts wanting to learn new things in a entertaining fashion

Q2: What would you like to see done differently next term?
A: I would like to see more nights that are not talks such as some workshops and maybe working with staff to craft a HackSoc CTF

A: A better understanding of the behind the scenes of HackSoc and hopefully a enjoyable experience of working as a team

Q1: What is the Ethical Hacking Society?
A: A group of people who have similar interests, who get together to share ideas, experiences, and have fun

Q2: What would you like to see done differently next term?
A: More involvement from the society for key events like Securi-tay, as well as further development of community platforms like the wiki

A: The trust of both current society members and Alumni that I can help maintain the society and help it continue down it's successful path

Q1: What is the Ethical Hacking Society?
A: HackSoc is where students with mutual interests in computing can explore and share the topics they are care about in a friendly atmosphere.

Q2: What would you like to see done differently next term?
A: I'd like to see more transparency. Even with the wiki and slack, a lot of details are still kept away from the society's members.

Q3: What do you want to gain from a committee position?
A: I want to continue to give back to and help grow the community that gave me a warm welcome to Scotland and makes me happy to resume uni every September.
